ShatterProof
ShatterProof is a non-toxic, water-based concentrated liquid that forms a protective coating to seal out moisture when applied to dried materials. ShatterProof will assist dried materials to remain soft and supple, reducing shedding and shattering. ShatterProof will dry to a clear finish leaving almost no visible evidence. Smooth surfaces will appear shiny.
For most applications ShatterProof should be diluted with seven parts water (7:1) however fragile materials may require only five parts water (5:1.) We recommended that you test the results on your particular materials to find your best dilution rate and method of application.
ShatterProof may be used as a spray on all dried materials. It is important to treat the entire surface of all materials. Spray should be applied to the top, bottom, and sides of the materials. A fine spray mist is preferred to avoid excessive accumulation on flowers. Shake flowers to remove excess spray which may slow drying and cause spotting on some flowers. Hang to dry when possible. While ShatterProof works most effectively on freshly dried plants, it will also help to reduce shedding and shattering in older, more brittle dried materials.
Dipping may give the best coverage for large quantities of filler and flowers with small petals. For materials with seeds a stronger solution of ShatterProof may be made by adding less water to the concentrate or spraying multiple coats.
ShatterProof is effective in reducing shattering and shedding on all dried materials (see special instructions for freeze-dried or dyed flowers.)
Filler: ShatterProof will reduce shedding and shattering by 90% on most filler. Fragile filler like Caspia, Baby's Breath, and materials with seeds may be treated before designing and then sprayed once the design is completed.
Flowers: All flowers may be treated with ShatterProof. Test to determine the best dilution rate for that flower type. Flowers with a smooth surface and deep colour may need a lighter coating of ShatterProof to avoid a sheen. A lighter coating may be obtained by adding water, or by using a very fine mist, allow to dry and re-mist. (This may be effective to reduce the sheen on the undersurface of roses.)
ShatterProof is a water-based material. It will dry in the same time that water will dry at equal temperature and humidity. For cool days and high humidity added air and heat may be needed to assist drying. ShatterProof is non-flammable, and will dry quicker with heat. Always dry flowers as quickly as possible to avoid moisture absorption into the flowers.
To help some flowers retain better shape and colour, ShatterProof may be used as a pre-treatment before drying flowers. (Drying time may be slowed as a result.)
