Often known as alternate-year crops, pistachios produce a large harvest only every couple of seasons. Many nut growers believe this cycle is the result of stress. The bud for next season's nut is located just beneath the current production. When the current crop experiences stress, the leaves around the nut cluster turn yellow and the bud for the following year is aborted. Sometimes even constant irrigation will not avoid this situation.
The nut clusters left are produced in the same orchard. Despite constant irrigation, the stress shown by the untreated tree (bottom) results in the loss of next year's crop. In the tree treated with AntiStress (top), the leaves around the nut cluster remain green, even though the treated trees in these photos have not been irrigated for 10 days. Their leaf cells continue to retain moisture, avoiding water stress. In addition, the new buds are not aborted, resulting in a full crop the next season. |
